solarsystem.nasa.gov — Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT) image of a huge, handle-shaped prominence taken on Sept. 14,1999. Prominences are huge clouds of relatively cool dense plasma suspended in the Sun's hot, thin corona. The hottest areas appear almost white, while the darker red areas indicate cooler temperatures.

Thankfully, we've got a few billion years left...

This is not a very crisp image. It's quite blurry and crappy, actually.

I bet if you took a spaceship to the sun, and took just a tiny taste of it, like the size of a grain of sand - it would still burn the roof of your mouth. That's hot.

How the f**k did this thing get so many diggs? It's just a damn pic, just like the pics of the sun before it.

What is the big deal with this pic? So f'ing what? The SOHO satellite captures pictures like this every day several times a day. and the size? Hubble hi-res photos can be as much as 20 - 30 MB. Perspective people!http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/realtime-images.html

we still rely on it for heat and light and a stable ecosystem and solar system and I'd like those thing to continue working. Therefore, I don't like relying on something that looks like it'll just break apart at any minute. It's like being married to a reformed serial killer never knowing when they'll snap.
