motherboard.tv— If this doesn't give you chills, then I don't know what will. It's crazy how much light this launch gives off. If you didn't know better, you might think a nuclear explosion just happened.

Beyond lighting up the sky like a miniature sun, the most awesome thing is how you can see blue skies once the shuttle gets up in the sky a bit. Amazing.
I live 20 or so minutes drive away from KSC and I have seen a couple of night time launches from Satellite Park across the Intracoastal with a direct view of the launch pad and it's amazing.You can see the lights going off at the time of the launch but there is no sound, it takes a few seconds before the roar comes and it comes hard even several miles away as the park is.I do hope this is not the last manned night launch we have seen.
One thing I recall from the launch I attended is how loud it was, in addition to the brightness. It's a reminder how much energy it takes to actually get into space.
