scriptorium.lib.duke.edu — The Ad*Access project consists of hundreds of retro ads from the 1950's. They are grouped into five categories: Beauty & Hygiene, Radio, Television, Transportation & World War II. These subjects were chosen for their broad popular appeal and proven interest to students, faculty and researchers.

"Retro, short for retrospective, is a modern term used to describe things from a bygone era. It is often used in a positive sense, referring to quirky or attractive products that are no longer available." -wikipedia.

>They were so anxious to watch it, >they didn't even bother taking it out of the box. That was the point of the ad.Why such an obvious comment was modded up so many times is beyond my comprehension. The same goes to the "And plug it in" remark. I can clearly see a cord in the right side of the advertisement.

"So humiliated when she realized the cause of her husbands frigidity.Send for a Free Book telling about this grave womanly offense. Learn how no other type liquid antiseptic-germicide tested for the douche is so powerful yet harmless!"Gotta love the 50's for their upbeat sense of sexual repression and crippling guilt.

Wow. This is great. Before computers (yeah, there was a time) I had collected a whole library of 50's & 60's advertisement pages from National Geographic, Life, Look and other magazines. I would create collages by (ahem) cutting and pasting images onto other images. I have done these a lot of course on the computer but I never had the time to scan the thousands of pages of ads that I had stored (which I later trashed because of space) now here's a great treasure trove of images. I think I'll be downloading everything here...I am a big fan of Winston Smith's collage work...http://winstonsmith.com//wish it was more thumbnail based//but i'll fix that when i download them @_@
