osx.portraitofakite.com — After seeing the digg story earlier today about the very lame CSS/Javascript desktop, I thought I'd submit this much better example. The site, FlyAKiteOSX, is a site for modifying Windows to look like OS X, but the site itself is layed out exactly like OS X, complete with highlighting icons and Finder windows.

For those of you that think you're cool by posting deragatory comments on my site, keep in mind I get an e-mail everytime a post is made, with your IP. All inappropriate comments will be deleted, and if you keep it up, your IP will be banned from the server. The rest of you, thanks for the comments. Over the next 3 months I plan on recoding most of the site features, to trim them down and add some more features, such as accurate png window shadows, a dock background, and more.

Legionnaire, it is NOT done in flash. The only piece of flash is the iTunes player, which is Wimpy Player. The rest is completely html, javascript, and css.

I remember seeing this when I actually used FlyaKiteOSX (which bugged the hell out of my computer but was awesome nevertheless). I was amazed then, and I'm still amazed. I never really thought of it in terms of something like this replacing OSs as we know them, but with all of the rumors about a Google OS, well, I'm excited as hell now that the wheels in my head are turning...

It looks pretty cool. I'll have to give it a try on my home test system.
