video.google.com— A video. The electric car accelerates so much faster, it makes the Ferrari look like a bicycle. Then it does the same thing to a Porsche. 104 Mph in 11 seconds.

I just wen to the atom web site to price this little guy out. Configuring a very base model got be into the 40K neighborhood and well into the 50 to 60 K for the "racing" versions. Granted this is still much cheaper than the cars in the video it's still out of reach for a regular joe, given it's impractical nature. And for looks I'd take a Tesla Motors over the atom, very sexy.and a red one may be just the thing for my midlife...!
First off, the last I checked a convertible 360 is a 360 Spider not Modena.. Secondly, the car is an f'in Ariel Atom and IS NOT electric. Report this ish inaccurate.
@x911gt2 If your looking for AC, Leather seats and a radio then the Atom (or this X-1 variant) aren't for you in which case go and buy a regular car as you've missed the point of the Atom, it was designed to be a pure drivers car, by removing all of the regular luxary items in most cars they have saved a load of weight and then combined it with a super light chassis and a fairly powerful engine - the key to it's performance is the power-to-weight ratio. You don't need a stinking great V12 pushing out 600brake to get awesome performance from a vehicle that weighs less then half a ton :-) The Atom 300, powered by a supercharged Civic Type R engine has a higher power2weight ration then a Ferrari Enzo for about 1/10th the price and I'd rather have one of these Atoms over that car anyday and I guarantee you'd get more looks driving this around town then a Ferrari in London as I've seen dozens of F430 (always in red!!!) and never seen a single Atom (in central London, I've seen a couple in towns further out from the capital where the empty roads are!)
Power to weight, that's all that matters at the strip. I own an 06' Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, it's heavy but with a 6.1 liter HEMI it pulls 13.4's and 0-60 in around 4.7 (ideal conditions) stock. There are some videos floating around of the Jeep road racing against Mustangs and the like, and it will out corner them too. The Jeep is proof that when the car companies take the cuffs off there engineers, they can do some amazing things. The Ariel Atom and Writespeed are proof that the future for car enthusiasts is bright. Now if they can just get the sound that makes the old lady next to me at the light crap her pants when I mash the gas, then I'll buy one.
Hmmm.... That's really interesting. You'd think the Ferrari or the Porsche would beat it hands down, but it's the complete opposite of that. The movie looks realistic enough to not be a fake. Therefore I'll believe it.
Electric cars are amazing inventions.... Although not all of them have to be super juiced up and expensive. Mid-range electric cars did exist until the patent for the batteries they were using (NiMH) was sold to Chevron by GM. The oil and auto companies definitely don't want a powerful electric car, although the technology exists. For more information, check out the book "Two Cents per Mile" by Nevres Cefo. the tesla can go 250 miles on a 3.5hr charge
elnerdoSep 11, 2006
Because it takes 1000 lbs of batteries to go 250 miles, and not nearly that amount of diesel fuel to go 250 miles?

That was amazing. It proves how good the electric car can be.
