That is why in every art form there are starving artists. The most talented people dont make it. It sadly has become what is marketable that makes $$$.Maybe all musicians will be smart like radiohead,pearl jam, NIN among others who said screw you to the record labels and decided to cut the middle man out and release there tracks for free/donation style or cheap in comparison to what the record labels charge....and at least you know your money is going directly to the artist and not some fat cat behind a desk that has given us such garbage as. Britney spears, back door boys, and all the other garbage.
