afterdawn.com — Popular Russian online music download service AllofMP3.com has been declared illegal by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), and prosecutions are reported to be underway. The Moscow-based service, whose market share at 14% comes second only to iTunes in the UK, has been accused of not paying royalties to artists.

Has it occurred to you, that grey market amounts to a huge part of Russian economy? It may be 50%, may be more. And that guy with record shop in Moscow is very likely selling pirated CDs/DVDs. How should AoM affect his business?>ignoring the consequences of your actions.I'm sorry, what exactly are the consequences of my actions? Who's getting hurt? If you thought I would have spent (lots) more money on over-expensive CDs had it not been for AoM, then you're mistaken. The money AoM gets is not something they "steal" from other sellers, they're picking up what others refuse to accept as payment for their goods, considering it, probably, too little of a profit margin. AoM has chosen a market niche that's being ignored by all others. And I believe it's the future.

Perhaps your not getting that they have every right to charge for their product, whether you like it or not. Go ahead and download, don't try to justify it by saying you're right to do it.

Continuing copyright term extensions are hardly part of a free market. They are rent seeking behaviour by those with influence over Congress. In fact, the very existence of copyright protection is in many ways anti-market. It creates an artifical restriction on exchange; creating property out of thin air. That said, it may be a market restriction even I am willing to accept. But no in its current incarnation. And I have no moral obligation to obey.

I'm sorry, but I thought it was the courts job to decide was is illegal and what is legal. Not an industry.I think I'll just declare something illegal. "Hey you, give me $100, if you refuse, that is illegal."Someone needs to bitch slap these people. The way I look at it, take allofmp3 to court. Once the judge declares it illegal then shut it down, until then these people shouldshut their traps and keep their declarations to themselves. Users of the site shouldn't be held liable. Just because the cost is so low, why should we all assume it is illegal?

"The way I look at it, take allofmp3 to court. Once the judge declares it illegal then shut it down, until then these people should shut their traps and keep their declarations to themselves."Well said... except that AoMP3 AIN'T ILLEGAL!If AoMP3 are not paying the royalties that they should be then they may be _doing_ something illegal, which is a completely different kettle of bananas. The Execs at Enron were doing illegal stuff, but that did not make Enron an "illegal business".Russian companies are not inherently illegal just because American business cartels don't like them, however much the RIAA may wish otherwise. If AoMP3 is operating within they law the IFPI cannot touch them. If they are operating outside the law then they should make restitution or be shut down. However, the IFPI has tried in the the past - and failed.

this is quite a frustrating fact of allofmp3 outta business. But a one good new.i reviewed couple of alternatives as it was suggested and http://hubpages.com/hub/russianmp3site between them.Well. i was stunned. they do claim they have more than 2 200 000 tracks online and that seems to be true! i?m a house addicted person and i could find almost all in their search (you know it quite hard to browse all their stuff).guys do accept cards and i had no probs while paying some to my account there.take a look there and letme know your opinion.
