If you're downloading games illegally, there is a chance that you do, in fact, have some knowledge of copyright laws, and how you are running the risk of having to pay compensation. That said, companies have been known to use bully tactics on single targets, trying to make them cave in under the pressure. A lawyer can act as a mediator as well here, bringing the issue to a compromise.
