Apple treats everything the same, for example, you are not going to be able to keep a bad logicboard if you payed for the logic board to be replaced. That guy should have backed his data up first, or tried to get it "removed" before taking it to get replaced. Data recovery on a drive that wont mount will cost anywhere from 1700-2500 dollars.
