popularmechanics.com — The Air Car is a compression-based alternative to the internal combustion engine, and ZPM has attained rights to build the first of several modular plants, which are likely to begin manufacturing in the Northeast. Company officials want to make a $17,800, 75-hp six-seater capable of 1000 miles at up to 96 mph with each tiny fill-up.

I used to drive a 1990 honda civic and getting to 60mph was absolute hell.

If they can use the Asgard Beaming technology as a matter converted to generate/copy stuff, why don't they just find a full ZPM and go to town Xerox style. And that episode they beamed up a whole building? They could probably matter convert an entire BC-304......

India's Tata Motors is making it and that will really accelerate India's economy. I am looking forward to how this will affect Japanese and US car makers when it goes into mass production. Tata is revolutionizing the automotive industry. They came out with a car that only costs $2500 and now a car that runs on air. This is really amazing.

Who wants to bet that this thing will be $35K, will get 75% less fuel mileage than projected, and won't make it to production? Thats the way all of these miracle cars work. They tell you how great its going to be but when it finally hits the "shelves" nobody wants it because it's nothing like they said it would be.

I was excited when I saw the specs, but then I saw the "car." Honestly, they can make "cars" like that run on anything. Knock the floor out and it would work Flinstone's style. I'll care when they make a real car.

Yes a battery is more energy dense by volume. Not necessarily true by weight. The Tesla battery is over 500 lbs. It takes energy to haul that around. Li-ion has roughly a 500 full cycle life. Yes you probably won't fully recharge every day but there are 365 days in a year so you do the math. And a battery always comes with a shelf life. Air tank, not so much. Electric car can refill much faster but not many of us have a compressor that holds 3000 cft at 4500 psi so it will likely take several hours. However, Li-ion is definitely going to take that long or longer with a 15 amp 110 V outlet even for a hybrid. Alternatively, you could do what is proposed for HV ultracaps, keep a spare in the garage which charges slowly (air in this case) and dump quickly to the car when you get home. Still I believe ultracaps are the disruptive technology should they ever find a way to build them cheaply. Put a spare one in your garage that is slowly charged via your solar panels on the roof and then quickly charge your electric car in 5 minutes when you get home over your 3500V HV power charge cable (didn't say it was without its issues but it is doable). Ultra caps will have 1 million plus recharge capability and much lighter than batteries with all the benefits of an electric motor car (quiet, instant and constant torque even at high speeds, and an electric heater). Still while we wait for that this is certainly a viable alternative especially as a hybrid.

Each day I am wondering how science is improving. In the beginning of 20th century there wasn't the internet but now we see that there will be air powered cars built. I can just take off my hat to those scientists who are inventing this. Air powered, it's just seems too good to be truth, but it is true and we'll see it happening in 2010! Who knows I a turning eighteen after 1.5 years, maybe I'll be available to buy one!

MDI has been working on air cars for years and years - and yet has to release a real product for sale.Get off the fence already, and come out with a real selling commercial product MDI, or shut up and go home.Zero Pollution Motors is doing something new:Selling actual automobiles, not promising future technology. The Australian Rotary Air Engine is way better than MDI's engine.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq8aZVLpf-cMore information here:http://www.engineair.com.au/index.htm

It sounds as though if you are able to go 1,000 miles on a single tank at an average of 90mph, it blows current electric cars out of the water. That's partially because the big three American automakers suppressed the potential of the pure electric vehicle. Check out the film, "Who Killed the Electric Car?"Luwww.GlobalQuestFund.com

A little confusing for me, i agree with 'pqjim' that energy can't be created or destroyed.http://donateacar.wordpress.com/
