thedailygreen.com — Many users aren't aware of the potentially lethal side effects, and fail to seek treatment after early warning signs. Meanwhile, on the same day as the petition to the FDA, the NYT has an article essentially encouraging Botox.

Funny you should mention that. t**s are just specialized sweat glands. If you look at a Platypus it's nipples are in it's arm pits.

I wonder if the "the weak and stupid" includes people who haven't learned the difference between "heard" and "herd".

Um, no. Your thinking of a sympathectomy which is a procedure done by a neurosurgeon who cuts sympathetic nerves to prevent excess sweating of the hands. This can lead to compensatory sweating in other areas like the legs and feet. Botox blocks the release of a neurotransmitter that signals sweat glands to make sweat. It only works where it is injected. There is no routing or rerouting of sweat. Sorry.

16 deaths from Botox?! Its a total lie! Don't believe it Diggers!A study published three years ago (J Am Acad Dermatol 2005;53:407-15) showed that there were 28 deaths from Botox by 2002, when Botox was not nearly as popular as it is now. There are certainly many more than16 deaths associated with Botox.Does that mean Botox is dangerous? Of course not. A death associated with Botox for reporting purposes means that there was a proximity in time, not necessarily a plausible cause. In other words if a person got Botox then was unfortunately hit by a bus, that death could be reported as Botox related. Are there deaths associated with the actual drug? Probably. Botox is used for many medical conditions as well as cosmetic reasons. It can be a miracle drug for certain neurologic and cerebral palsy patients. Botox is botulinum toxin. Yes. THE deadly toxin. However, a lethal dose of Botox is about 3000 units. That's 30 vials. Most patients probably have half a vial or less, about 1/60ith of a lethal dose. There are thousands of drugs that 30-60 times a normal dose would be lethal, including plain ol' aspirin. Duh?As someone astutely pointed out there are far more deaths from eating peanuts every year (something like 120). Technically the odds are a random person is more likely to die from eating a peanut than from getting a Botox injection. Although, after Botox, you might not be able to smile about it. And before you start crying bias, I do not do any Botox in my practice and I have never received any money from Allergan, the Botox company. I just hate to see smart Diggers talk stupid for no good reason.

Here's another explanation for the botox deaths:http://www.pearsonfaces.com/pfps/2008/01/botox-dea ...It's not just for cosmetic use, btw. Probably no one in this latest report was getting it to improve their looks.

I agree. Voluntary injections are just that, voluntary. People will do just about anything to stay younger looking for lots of reasons, namely so that their spouses don't look at other people. Women are especially vulnerable to this injecting, lifting, lipo-suctioning, increasing their boobs, etc. Lips poofed out. I'll bet that people who have big lips naturally are laughing out loud at all the money spent on it. After all, at one time, it was unbecoming to have big lips!

I have to say that a very satisfying part of these procedures is the confidence and glow people get after they start feeling better about themselves.http://medicalspamd.com
