justsome.com — If you’re a Wordpress user, and have the slightest grasp of HTML, then at some point in your blogging life you’re sure to have flung an insult at the built-in WYSIWYG editor that comes with Wordpress. If you're thinking of committing WYSIWYG Hara-Kiri…..wait!!! All hope is not lost. That is to say, Wordpress 2.1 has a little trick up it's sleeve..

"Switching to code view, editing style hooks, and switching back to "Design" view broke up my heading and was kicking out tags like (part of a headline). Java/script WYSIWYG's are teh suck."I think a more considered conclusion to the problems you describe would be 'the person who wrote this particular Javascript WYSIWYG editor's skills are teh suck", rather than declaring that Javascript WYSIWYGs in general suck. An editor is only going to be as good as the person who wrote it regardless of what language it is written in.

@woadlined : "Ektron doesn't cost a million dollars."You're right. The implementation and transition team, including Ektron licensing, cost my company roughly a million from what we're told... A million dollar mistake if you ask me... @woadlined & arizonagroove: I'm venting, so piss up a rope. Said crapass Java Applet just crashed my G5 an hour after I posted. KTHXBAI!

There's a WYSIWYG editor called MudBomb that's also proved to be very useful. It's basically TinyMCE on steroids, and I'm not sure if it works for those using 2.1 or higher, but it works fine in 2.0.X. It's a bit of a resource hog, but with some tweaking you can slim the toolbar down to only those features you actually want to use.<a class="user" href="http://mudbomb.com/archives/2005/02/02/wysiwyg-plugin-for-wordpress/">http://mudbomb.com/archives/2005/02/02/wysiwyg-plugin-for-wordpress/</a>

B'ah .... I thought this was a plug-in .... Not a "Coming in version 2.1" feature

Why don't they just put it together the advanced WYSIWYG and the default together?
