engadget.com — The specs include a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, 20-40GB hard drive, support for most common audio and video formats, video out and a battery life of 4-8 hours. The form factor is eerily similar to leaked photos of Apple's video iPod.

I heard Acer and immediately thought it would be lame and ugly, but it's so sleek. I will still wait and see what Apple has to offer first though.

This is one of those things that causes me to be furious about the DMCA. If I'm not mistaken, wouldn't I technically be considered in violation of the law for ripping an encrypted DVD to this thing...even one I've legally purchased?

"iTunes is the only reason I bought an iPod. I'm been looking forward to at least some competition for Apple. Everyone hated Microsoft because of their monopoly... HAS ANYONE REALIZED THAT APPLE IS DOING THE SAME WITH MP3 PLAYERS??!??!?!?!?"Yes, I believe just about everyone has realized that and there have even been front page articles about it here on digg so please get over yourself and stop yelling.

Apple does NOT have a monopoly. Their are plenty of competing services and players to iTunes/iPod. If you do not want an Apple, then buy something else - does Apple have exclusive licenses with the music companies? NO. Therefore its not a monopoly. I will further argue that Microsoft does NOT have a monopoly either - they used to, but their exclusive licenses were struck down. If you dont like Microsoft, buy a Macintosh. There is very little you can do on Windows that you cant do on a Mac, and equal things you can do on a Mac that you cant do on Windows. Just because Windows/iPods have market dominance in their categories does not make them monopolies as long as viable alternatives exists - and as long as they dont use their market dominance to force exclusive content licenses.

"Everyone hated Microsoft because of their monopoly... HAS ANYONE REALIZED THAT APPLE IS DOING THE SAME WITH MP3 PLAYERS??!??!?!?!?"Difference being that Apple's products are a joy to use. ;o)"If I'm not mistaken, wouldn't I technically be considered in violation of the law for ripping an encrypted DVD to this thing...even one I've legally purchased?"Technically, even THINKING about LOOKING at a DVD cover in the store without buying it is illegal. ;o)

How is the price "good"? A 60 GB video iPod costs $399, and their "estimates" for the 40GB Acer knockoff starts at $415.Bob Barker would not agree that the price is right.

any one else notice that that is lord of the rings playing in in the picture of the player?
