wired.com— In the 20,000 years or so that humans have been getting piss-drunk, no spirit has earned a worse rap than absinthe.

i'd much rather drink pernod/ricard (mixed with water), or even sambuca than absinth (if i was going to.drink a anise/licorice flavored drink, that is; and if i still drank). while it's certainly funny the first time you get s**t-faced on absinthe in prague and fall asleep under a park bench, i know very few people who find it appetizing as a regular drink.
I smuggled in four bottles through customs last time I went to Europe, and as soon as I got back, they legalized it. The stuff I got in France is still much better than the stuff they have over here, but even sampling absinthe over in Europe, it's still not this fantastically great way to hallucinate. The drunk is a little different.... Colors are brighter and it's more of a lucid drunk as opposed to blackout drunk, but it's still basically alcohol. The awful taste is hardly worth it, and the stuff from the U.S. is even worse.... I wouldn't even bother. Save your money and indulge in LSD.
If ~your~ argument is true, where is the objective proof of the psychoactive effect of the amount of thujone found in absinthe? Why is the only 'proof' the anecdotal claims of a vanishingly few afficionados? 'Everyone else is doing it wrong' simply doesn't stand the sniff test.

More than that; I bought a bottle back in December, so it must have been legal for a while prior to that.

The only reason it's being allowed is because no one really wants it that much.
