online.wsj.com— The iPhone is Steve Jobs's attempt to crack a juicy new market for Apple Inc. But it's also part of a decades-long campaign by Mr. Jobs against a much broader target: BUTTONS.

rhoul.... the iPod does NOT have an ON/OFF button. You even state as much yourself. ("Hold down Play for 2 seconds") It has a PLAY button with additional (and arguably hidden) on/off functionality.
Who needs buttons?! I mean having to select your channel rather then scroll to 300 is just ridiculous- that would make the scroll button useless.Buttons phaa silly useful things, why when they can just spin !!!
Thank you Apple for leading the way to a simple, intuitive, and simply beautiful cell phone! I mean, why is this the first phone to sync with Microsoft Outlook???? First to have practically unlimited storage of text messages and phone numbers???? First to have a toggle switch for "silent" mode??? I really hope these features become a standard for the industry.

Odd, the only time you have issues is when doing the one function the iPhone was designed for...I would call it irony, but in reality it's bad design.

Apple haters are out in force today. You mention taking away some buttons and they act like you shot their dog, extended family, and left foot.
