I've seen a few posts on a couple of the boards I visit claiming that malicious images have been inserted on various pages at wikipedia. Has anyone else heard this? Does anyone know what precautions wikipedia, or similar sites, have in place to prevent something like this - virus scanning on the backend / etc? If someone were to upload images to wikipedia & place them on a page, it could reach a lot of people quickly.
One possibility is to have Linux or Mac as your base OS, and run Windows in a virtual machine. Doesn't make your computer immune to viruses, but at least you will still be able to maintain a working environment in the event your Windows gets infected.

Here is an old but good article I finally found on alternatives to WindowsXP.It talks about using Linux and it does mention the Mac Mini as an inexpensive alternative.http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1777555,00.asp
