selectivegamers.com — A video of a game engine capable of rendering entire planets in real-time! Kind of makes you scratch your head eh..The game will be a MMO btw, and like Project Offset, is being made by just a few guys.

I don't know what Oblivion you played but the dungeons were one of the two worst aspects of the game IMO. The cities had flavor because they were artistically done by human programmers, the landscape could have had a little more variety, but the dungeons were bland and repetitive, or maybe the item quests just made it feel that way... The insides of the dungeons felt like they came out of some dungeon crawler of 1996.The 2nd aspect that ruined the game was lack of distinct and likable NPCs to make them truly memorable. Even multiplayer a game this scale will feel really empty.

Reminds me of this old projecthttp://sponeil.org/its pretty old now (2000'ish) basically just the solarsystem. not amazing by todays standars but still cool.you can download a demo and see how it works or download and play with the source codes.http://sponeil.org/downloads.htmI'd just download the "sandbox Executables" it comes with a few other things to look at. the controlls suck and are tricky to figure out, youre movement has lots momentum so its nothing like flying. also you move extreamly fast. so once you get ground level a tap of the key sends you flying back into space because you also bounce off the planets surface. making it harder to explore, you also have Day/Night meaning you'll endup pitch black for a while. its easy to get lost. but it was cool when i first played around with it back in 2002 or 03 (i cant remember) you can explore all the planets in the demo, not just the one it points you tothere is no key chart so here are the keys ive figured out (could be more)W-speedup S-SlowDown Q-RollLeft E-RollRightSPACE=Stoparrow keys=lookP-shows geometry meshV-start video recordplus/minus = mesh iterations (digg wont let me use /- it removes the plus, odd)

even thou i would enjoy a good mmorpg i would still rather see a engine like this used with just one game - Elite IV

that could never work. the sheer size of the planet with the rings would swallow the near by habitable planet due to its sheer massive gravitational pull.

The legendary game 'Elite' and it's sequel had quite and an impressive galaxy system. Bout time someone managed to make it with today's graphic libraries.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_%28computer_game%29

It's still useful, I swear!
