nytimes.com— The Mac's presence in the retail world remains limited, a shame given the rare opportunity for Apple to gain market share that opened up when Vista arrived.

And you say that like it's a bad thing? If I had the choice of building my own box to run OS X on or buying a Mac would I?Nope! You fail to remember why people buy computers. They buy them to get tasks done quicker and as a result give them more time to spend with their families or friends pursuing other more enjoyable things like the great outdoors for example. If you buy computers to spend say 10% of your time troubleshooting them then that's five weeks every year you would spend footling around with drivers, compatibility issues, swapping out parts and googling that you could have spent touring the great lakes or teaching your kid to swim or whatever dude.Really. I can not see what is so important about "rolling your own". Is it an ego trip."Oh yeah dude. I built this Pee Cee with my own two hands". ooh. you're soooo clever. Wow...With the Mac Pro there are tons of spec-able configuration options. The only difference is that Apple tries and tests their options thoroughly with Mac OS X before they are put on spec. If you really want to use a different graphics card you can or different RAM or a different hard drive. And the processors are on ZIF sockets nowadays so you can change those too.*So yes you can kind of roll your own by upgrading an older machine with nn standard bits but that's your choice.I and around 98% of other people just want to buy a good computer with as lower hassle factor as poss. It's just sad that so many keep buying Windows though and have to keep getting that hassle. Those that choose Macs tend to stay with that platform because they enjoy virtually hassle free computing.
Ooh how much did Gates and Ballmer pay you for this one? Like Microsoft cares about their customers. They don't even trust you. What about this Windows Genuine Advantage activation crap. That proves it. And the price for Vista Ultimate. You can get 5 licences for a family of OS X 10.4 tiger for around £139 sterling (do the maths pal). What a plonker!!!
Emulating a PC? Macs are PCs. The only difference is the OS and a few superficial changes in how they boot to tie it with OSX. You're just running Windows either virtualized or as a dual boot. No emulation needed. Just a fatter wallet for the more expensive hardware and 2 OSes.
