burbia.com — A software engineer with a self-proclaimed interest in hardware engineering asks, must all our electronic products now feature 24/7 blinking, illuminating LEDs that single-handedly have seemed to make the night-light obsolete?

That's also how I repair the check engine light on my cars dash.<a class="user" href="http://odeo.com/episodes/23591360-The-Simpsons-Check-Engine" rel="nofollow">http://odeo.com/episodes/23591360-The-Simpsons-Che ...</a>

Right. so I can wait for the satellite to re-acquire, re-set all the sound settings on the receiver, turn the speakers off on the TV, reset the color and lipsync, And that is just to watch TV.

It's for this reason exactly that I keep none of my electronics in my room, which I use for pretty much nothing except sleeping and getting ready in the morning. In fact, the only light that I do have in my room at night is from my alarm clock. All my electronics are in another room that, I think, looks great with a slight glow from multiple devices.

Buried for illiteracy.

I can do you one better. My first roommate in college had a clock radio that used blue LEDs. A clock radio. Let that sink in a moment. A device that always has a screen full of lights on, and is meant to be facing directly at the bed of someone who's trying to sleep.More proof that no matter how simple the device, some real-world testing before you start selling it is always a good idea.

The energy used by devices while in standby is a whole another problem, although LED power off indicators contribute to the problem.

A single central 12 volt power converter and battery in each home would nullify the long transmission length issue. Some things work better from 117/220 VAC and some things work better from 12 VDC.

Ugh, even after turning everything off in my bedroom at night I have little electronic night lights that make it hard to sleep. The speaker system on my computer has a large red LED behind the power button. The HP printer has a large blue LED behind the power button. My cable modem, router, and cable TV box all have multiple LEDs, including several that blink. And my plasma TV glows grey (I unplug it every night, otherwise I can't sleep). I would really like devices to not produce ANY light at all when turned off. That would be spectacular.

We'll cross that bridge if we come to it.

Hahah, awesome - I feel his pain. It is so annoying that there are always lights on everywhere. YEah I could turn them off at the mains, but thats too annoying and not convenient at all.
