nytimes.com — For more than two centuries, the Freemasons and their grandiose rituals have played a secretive, mysterious role in American life. One of the Masons? symbols looks a lot like the all-seeing eye on the back of every $1 bill. And look whose picture is on the other side.

It has a structure because it is an organization and there need to be people in charge, so we can get things done. Because someone is "Master of the Lodge" does not mean he is better than me, we are both 3rd Degree Masons, equals. As for your "luciferian" reference I assume you mean ....wait for it.....Satan! :)There is a reference to Lucifer in reguard to Masonry, but the reference refers back to a hoax, about a speach given by Léo Taxil in the 1800's. I would also like to point out that sometimes words and phrases can be take out of context, for instance Lucifer is a Latin word meaning "light-bearer" (from lux, "light", and ferre, "to bear, bring"), a Roman astrological term for the "Morning Star", the planet Venus. This word was taken by Medieval Christans to mean Satan.here are a couple of web sites you might want to read.<a class="user" href="http://freemasonry.bcy.ca/anti-masonry/taxilhoax.html">http://freemasonry.bcy.ca/anti-masonry/taxilhoax.html</a><a class="user" href="http://freemasonry.bcy.ca/anti-masonry/anti-masonry06.html">http://freemasonry.bcy.ca/anti-masonry/anti-masonry06.html</a><a class="user" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucifer">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucifer</a>

repins, it was actually taken from the Greek word eosphoros (=Lucifer), which was the original name of Satan when he was still an angel, before his fall.Satan actually felt because he reached a point where he considered himself the best of all creatures and able to rule the world.Like you consider yourselves good men that were made even better by masonry.Anyway I won't waste my time with people who say, hey we might be luciferians but the word was taken out of the context. I'm just here to warn people, and to address these last words to you masons.it's not too late to come back to the light. Imagine the holly glory that will spread to your souls if you manage to do that.

Making good men better. That's the Reader's Digest version but basically, it's a reminder that life is short and that the good works you do live on long after you're gone. It's an encouragement to do unto others as you'd have done unto you.HTH

That's the reason behind the belief in the Great Architect of the Universe. Whether you see GAOTU as God, Jehovah, Allah, etc. is secondary.

I am always interested in the topic of joining the Freemasons. I recently found an old wooden ring at an estate with a Revolutionary War document. I have heard that most of our founding fathers were masons. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? : <a class="user" href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=140089970293&rd=1&rd=1">http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=140089970293&rd=1&rd=1</a>

Freemasonry is hierarchical, however that hierarchy changes every couple of years. Lodges change yearly Grand Lodges changes 2-3 years normally. There isn't a central body running the show.
