voip-news.com — No, it's not going away. Just days into the 110th Congress, Democrats reintroduced net neutrality legislation that had gone nowhere when they and a Republican colleague proposed it last May. The move came less than two weeks after AT&T's promise to observe net neutrality for 2 years, as a condition for gaining FCC approval for an acquisition.

@Guydevice: burried because you comment although you don't know what's net neutrality. Please look it up (for example in wikipedia) first and then add coments here.

A common mistake that people make when advocating new regulation (like this) is wishful thinking: assuming that it will work as intended, and ignoring costs, unintended consequences, and long-term effects. How will net neutrality be enforced? What kind of monitoring of Internet traffic will the government seek to do (or have to do!) in order to ensure that ISPs are following the rules? When a new government agency is created to oversee and enforce net neutrality, what powers will it be granted? What will be required of ISPs, in terms of fees and bureaucracy, and will such requirements be burdensome for small/new competitors?I could better understand proposing something like this as an emergency measure if major damage had already been done, but preemptively? Just in case? That is treating government regulation way too lightly. Please look at the effect it's had elsewhere before being so ready to accept it (let alone propose it) here.

"Competition only works if it works."Yes, and when the Internet was the sole province of the government, it took 30+ years for anybody but a few remote scientists and college professors to hear about it, let alone have it revolutionize their world. What accomplished that? Oh yeah. Competition. And you're looking at competition too narrowly. Cable is already in high-speed internet -- it's about time the telcos got into TV, too.

I've already read way too much on this subject. I guess my comment would be more relevant in the packet discussion. Anything wrong with my other comment?

A little over one year after I posted my comment, and now I can say I told you so.
