macsimumnews.com — ?making Leopard able to run Windows apps without Windows? could be a ?sweet two-fer? that would ?knock Dell stock through the floor? and ?give a mighty whack to one half of the Microsoft cash cow partnership, Windows OS.?

Back then, AOL 3 was the only way for most of us to get online...so, yeah. Me four...? Thankfully, AOL is now irrelevant amongst everyone but clueless soccermoms.

because it _isn't_ a genius idea, perhaps?

And why isn't it GNC? There are plenty of Mac users who would like to be able to run any app without waiting for someone to do it right and make it universal and without having to buy a copy of Windows to take up space on their drives and only be used 10% of the time.

Well, I seriously doubt that Apple's "virtualization plan" will "kill Windows, Dell"Anyhow,From the article:"...may have virtualization features far beyond the “rebooting into Windows” capability of Boot Camp."Has anyone tried the betas of VMWare Fusion? It has some hardware acceleration (Direct X 8.1) and the ability to load your bootcamp partition in a virtual environment while in OSX. If you ask me, VMWare's solution is the best -- giving you the option to boot directly to your windows partition (for increased speed and direct hardware access), and the option to boot that same partition while in OSX using virtualized hardware (somewhat slower, but you don't have to restart). Hopefully Apple's virtualization plan includes similar features.Link:http://www.vmware.com/products/beta/fusion/

If it can run Windows programs, it can run Windows viruses, then we have the security issue. Executables suck.

sorry but teh apple costs more does not stand up, dont get me wrong I am nothing but PC for my desktop, but I have configured dell machines to macbook and mac pro specs and found the dells to be more expensive, however the imacs are expensive compared to similar pcs. I wouldn't mind an apple laptop but for the desktop nothing but a custom handbuilt PC for me, it will be cheaper, faster then an pre-built apple or pc from a manufacturer. I do mean faster because the advantage for those who custom build PCs that apple nor dell can offer, is overclockability. You can sell all the 3 GHz quad core machines you want, but I can go into the bios and make a few changes and run that cpu at 3.2GHz.

no, won't happen. All that kind of virtualisation would do would mean Mac users wouldn't need to "buy" a copy of Windows to use in bootcamp. The only way Apple are going to kill Windows is if they release OSX for generic PCs ie as a Windows replacement. THEN I can see a whole army of people migrating. But they won't kill Dell, unless they start releasing Macs that are cheaper than Dells ie it will be a cold day in hell.Just cos I can run my favourite Windows app inside OSX, doesn't mean I can suddenly AFFORD to buy OSX. Or 70% of the rest of the world either. Mac users live in this bubble, they can afford to buy a Mac, an iPod, an airport and AppleTV, and kind of assume that everyone else can too.Interesting though, watching that Jobs/Gates interview the other day. Steve said "what is a Mac? its OSX in a nice box" and "Apple is a SOFTWARE company". So how come everyone has been telling me for the last ten years that Apple is a hardware company, NOT a software company? Is this a shift of focus from the Jobsmeister? (sorry, I'm babbling now)
