Well, I guess I was not the only one who came up with the idea :(I'll still try and make my own automatic guitar tuner (hopefully way less expensive)

i think alot of people are missing the point. its not about making it easier for 'idiots' to play guitar. there are already idiots who play guitar. i was in a band for a few years and one problem i faced constantly was trying to stay in tune on stage or having to switch tunings between songs. this makes it alot easier and shortens the waiting time between songs. right now if i want to change the tuning to C# standard from E standard, i have to use the tuner on my pedal. Its relatively easy but it still takes time. if you're at a gig and you've got your audience fired up, you dont want to say, hang on guys just wait a few seconds while i tune my guitar. 10seconds is a long time when you're on stage. timing is everything.to be able to say, ok i want drop B or C# standard within seconds just by turning a dial is a huge time saver. i dont know about the rest of you, but being exactly in tune on stage means alot. just practicing its ok to be out a bit, but you want to be precise when you're on stage.

The guitar wasn't tuned properly in that video, even when the device said it was. You could still hear the beating of the out-of-tune notes. I'm a guitarist myself and this thing doesn't look like it functions 100% flawlessly. This would drive me absolutely NUTS. They didn't compensate for tempered tuning either. The guitar will ALWAYS sound slightly out of tune unless it is tuned with offsets like the Buzz Feiten tuning system. Plus the motorized machine heads don't compensate for string slack. Any guitarist knows you're supposed to tune UP to the note, not down. When you tune down to a note, there is string slack which isn't always apparent until you stretch the string and then tune back up to the note. This system doesn't appear to perform in this manner. The idea of automated tuning however, is not new. Transperformance has been doing this (the right way I might add) for YEARS - <a class="user" href="http://www.transperformance.com.">http://www.transperformance.com.</a> Although some routing of your guitar is required to install it properly. And that system can tune the guitar on the fly in any possible tuning configuration you can conceive since it goes by chromatic tuning for each string.Nice try guys, but no digg.

In response to all those "If you can't tune your own guitar, find a new profession" comments...First of all, I doubt that you've ever worked professionally as a guitarist because you're looking past the most important reason for having a product like this. In a live environment you don't really want to be messing around with tuning your guitar by ear between songs. Everybody has one of those BOSS chromatic tuners. But even those take time, so I can see this becoming a helpful addition to the live performer.I know tons of musicians who don't have the best ears. Rock and roll has never really been about dorky stuff like being able to tune by ear. I don't even really care if I'm slightly out of tune or not. The audience doesn't really notice stuff like that. And yes, this is my profession. I'm writing this email from Austin, TX. I'm here with my band for SXSW.

This is pretty interesting, being a guitar player myself, but I have learned to tune my guitar by ear, and I don't have to spend $800-$900 to do it...

Indeed

excellent idea

Understandable, I guess I would just rather use a rackmount or pedal tuner due to the high cost of this thing. I'm paranoid anyway so I'd be afraid that the motors on the tuning pegs would fail. Is there a manual override?

Clarinets! PLEASE!!!! lol

I like the idea despite the price. I mean, come on, what guitarist here LIKES tuning their guitar?

Did you watch the video? The tuning pegs still function exactly the same.
