The slap in the face was that it took so long for them to get justice, and that it was only a commutation and not a full pardon. One doesn't need to be a right wing wacko, a Bushie, or (insert tired/predictable insult) to be anti ILLEGAL immigration. No, I'm not a republican. No, I'm not racist (I'm actually Hispanic - the child of LEGAL immigrants) and I don't have to be a genius to see three things: 1. the drug dealer you are defending was a scumbag. He was breaking the law in MANY ways, had been previously deported on more than one occasion, and was caught not long after this whole incident doing the SAME thing he was doing before (I don't seem to find a mention of this in your "article"); and 2. The conviction for their actions was not the issue. I can make peace with them being convicted for the "cover-up." The issue was that they had a handgun law applied to their case which carried a mandatory 10 year sentence. This is a law that was NEVER intended to be used against ARMED law enforcement officials. 3. The prosecution LIED to members of Congress saying that they had secret information and testimony that proved that Ramos and Compean (both Mexicans) were Bo and Luke'n around looking for Mexicans to shoot.If you're even in a situation where a cop can save your life (or the life of someone in your family) by taking a shot at your attacker, perhaps karma will cause him to hesitate in fear of that law being applied to him. Since I'm pretty sure you'll come down on that and tell me that I can't compare apples to oranges, yes I can. They're both fruit and oranges are better.

Where is the part that the guy who was shot was a scumbag drug dealer, Mexican national Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila (who later pleaded guilty to same)? Are we forgetting the part that this criminal was illegally in our country?Where is the part that this scumbag led the agents on a wild car chase through the desert southeast of El Paso?Where is the part where it's mentioned fled his DRUG-FILLED vehicle on foot and then refused orders from Border agents to halt? Yes Ramos and Compean fired. Yes the illegal alien DRUG DEALER was shot in the buttocks. AND YES, the illegal alien DRUG DEALER continued to flee across the border and escaped. AND YES, the Feds offered an illegal alien DRUG DEALER immunity to testify against two of its own border patrol agents, who were then sent to prison FOR TRYING TO ARREST AN ILLEGAL ALIEN DRUG DEALER. Sure, we can argue over whether or not they should have fired their weapons in the first place. Yes, we can argue over what their punishment should be for trying to cover the fact up. HOWEVER, nothing they did justified giving immunity to an ILLEGAL ALIEN DRUG DEALER so that two of our own border patrol agents, trying to arrest an ILLEGAL ALIEN DRUG DEALER, could be given unreasonably long sentences for trying to do their jobs.I'm not a Republican. I'm a liberal and I am a Democrat. But I think for once in his administration Bush did the right thing. There are murderers and rapists who get shorter prison sentences. Justice was not served initially. Now it has been.The Mexican government is angry. So what? Since when do they control our policies and tell us how we can patrol our own border? If they'd control their criminal element and perhaps patrol their own border. Mr. Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila would have been safe in a Mexican prisoner and never ILLEGALLY in the United States ILLEGALLY carrying drugs and ILLEGALLY evading arrest.How are these facts confusing to anyone?
