gangles.ca — There?s always been a minor niggle at the back of my mind when I played the Nintendo DS. ?They?ve got it backwards,? I thought. A speedy investigation showed that my memory was a little foggy, and that the answer was significantly more interesting than that.

But from what I've heard from Nintendo they made the A that large to emphasize that you should only need one button to play a game not the 17 or whatever that todays standard controllers have.

Sony's d-pads are terrible. Even Nintendo's are just acceptable. The best designs were on the 6-button Mega Drive joypad, and on the Japanese Saturn one (pre-Nights).Sony (and to a lesser extent Nintendo) use a divided pad; it's like four buttons linked together at the centre of the assembly. After long sessions of games in which you need quick movements passing through the diagonals (think Street Fighter), your finger starts to hurt. They made it less ridiculous on the latest versions, but still: try to play King of Fighters for 10 hours straight on a Saturn (to exaggerate the effect), then do the same on a Playstation.

volacide, I won't respond any further because it has become a pointless argument. You made it pointless by reading only the first sentence of what I wrote before replying. In short: f**k off, troll.

My favorite was the "Click Stick" on the Neo Geo Pocket. it was a 'disc' mounted on a short shaft that pressed the buttons for the directions. it was essentially a digital thumbstick, and I never pressed the wrong direction with it (like I do with some analog thumbsticks) and my thumb never got cramped or chafed (like on some stiff d-pads.)

Which was also a kickass controller. The 360 controller is like the most perfect controller ever (excluding the dpad)
