arstechnica.com — Just like it's $10 DSL option, AT&T has quietly introduced its $20 "naked" DSL option--that is, DSL with no landline and (allegedly) no contract. We are having a hard time finding that exact combo on AT&T's website, though.

I don't do anything illegal so as far as I'm concerned (as one of the most boring people alive) AT&T can take photos of my underwear drawer and give them to the government. Makes no difference to me.And before you think I'm some flag-wearing Republican I'm looking to get the hell out of the states as soon as I practically can (but not because of wiretapping).

Just got off the phone with AT&T. Not only was this NOT available in my area, but the link from Ars Technica is apparently outdated, according to the representative. Now she could be blowing smoke, but you have to click on the 'Internet' link on the left to get an updated (and less impressive) offer. I'll be sticking with Road Runner for the foreseeable future.

FYI, I used to DSL Tier 2 support for Mindspring (I quit before they started outsourcing because a VP alerted me) The phone loop didn't have voice, but the problem here was that the phone techs would steal your phone pair (of wires) for new service orders. Phone techs used to just test for tone. Phone lines eventually run out, which is why Bridge Taps (see Wikipedia) were invented. So, if this starts happening to you. So, basically if you start having to call AT&T alot, keep these things in mind. For some neighborhoods, it may not be worth the hassle.
