consumerist.com — AT&T pulled the bait and switch on its own employees. One was repeatedly told that his employee discount would apply only towards iPhone calling plans, but not the iPhone itself, or its associated data plan. The employee twice verified the existence of a calling plan discount - at an AT&T store, and with AT&T customer support.

I had a similar situation with receiving horrible coverage from AT&T. Before I bought my iphone, i checked AT&T's coverage map online, which showed that I should receive 4-5 bars in the areas of town (home, work) that I would be spending most of my time in. I bought the phone, activated it and saw that I had NO SERVICE while at home. I loved the phone while not at home, but obviously could not keep paying AT&T for 2 years. I called them up to see why their coverage map showed 4 stars, while in reality they have no coverage at my house. They looked up on their internal coverage map and said that I Indeed had 0-1 bars. Duh. The AT&T Rep told me that I have 30 days "buyer's remorse" to cancel my contract. I mentally decided to do this, but still use my phone for another 12-14 days since I was only 15 days into owning my iphone. The end of my first month rolls around, I call up and ask to have my contract canceled. They agreed since they knew I was suffering from 0 bars at my home address. Next they told me that I need to take the iphone back to Apple and they will cancel my contract. WTF?!? I am going to keep my iphone and use it as a handheld wifi browser, ipod, etc. The only bad thing about my iphone was AT&T, which I was in the process of firing. I told them that that was anti-consumer to force me to take the iphone back to Apple. The rep was very insistent that Apple had to cancel the AT&T contract, even after challenging her on this point. "AT&T should be able to cancel an AT&T contract, not Apple". "The Iphone has wifi that can work on anyone's network, not just AT&T. No sir, the iphone is an AT&T only device." "SIGH!!" After all, it was not subsidized, and I complained that they baited and switched on my showing me 4-5 bars on their public coverage map, when their internal coverage map told the truth. After I told the rep that Apple had a 14 day return policy on the iphone anyway, so I wont be able to take it back. This point was a real conundrum for the rep. How could I take the phone back after 30 days and actually get my AT&T contract canceled? She checked with her supervisor for 10 minutes to see what could be done. She comes back and said that she was actually able to cancel my contract. Duh! And I was able to get them to refund my activation charge because I accused them of bait and switch in regards to the public and private coverage maps being so different.Don't believe them when they say that Apple has to cancel your contract. My story wound up positive for me, but only after forcing AT&T to do the right thing. AT&T still left a horrible taste in my mouth about how anti-consumer they are and how crap the whole wireless industry is in general. Contracts are aweful for the consumer. I wish wireless carriers had to COMPETE to retain your business. If there was a threat of customers leaving you for providing bad service would surely shake up the industry for the better.

Am I supposed to care that this guy didn't get his iPhone cheaper than everyone else? But, WAAHHH, I'm SPECIAL!!

"badly" means to a severe degree, "poorly" means improperly or inadequately. You would be injured badly, you would perform poorly, for instance.

Ok here it isI currently work for ATT as a Retail Sales Consultant in the Corporate Store and I will be the first to say that yes ATT sucks they are the biggest rip off company out there!! I am looking for a new job, the recruiter lied to me about how the company worked and how they do things if I had known how bad it was I would never have gone to work for them! I am posting on here with out my name becuase until I find a new job I can not afford to lose this one. First of all the reason why we are like used car salesmen is becaue thats the way they train us they want us to sell the whole store to every customer. ATT cares about thier money first and foremost and they don't care about who they hurt. In fact I would say the only thing that is good at ATT is the medical benefits. Another thing is that if we miss work we get a point and it does not matter if we are sick and have a good reason or if it is beyound our control they do not care they hit us with a point anyway and then once we hit 7 we get fired oh and did I mention if we are even 2 min late we get a quarter point. So they punish us for being sick, the other really messed up thing is that when you do get these points they stay on for 6 months, but if you get on a write up that write up stays for 6 months from date of write up so all your points could drop but you are still on a write up and so even if you have no points you can still get fired!! Its fing bs! ATT does not care and is evil, I encourage anyone thinking of working for them to not work for them its just hell!!!
