consumerist.com — AT&T is required to offer a $10 DSL option to those consumers who are in AT&T's 22 state coverage area and who have not previously subscribed to AT&T DSL. This requirement is part of concessions made to the FTC so that AT&T could merge with BellSouth and take over Cingular.

Most consumer-grade modem/routers can't keep up with all the NAT entries. I finally bought a Cisco 2620 to terminate my ADSL line - no problems since.

i had service thru mountain bell from 1979-1983. i remember the government breakup of the bell system quite well. they ripped us off real bad! especially on interstate rates.i moved to texas after that. then in 1990 SOUTHWESTERN BELL was, apparently overcharging people for years. i was part of a class action because of this. the law firm out of houston, that was handling the case, got several mil. in legal fees. i recieved a cheque for $2.85 and a guarenteed freeze on custom calling feature rates for 2 years. ooh!the point is. the AT@T that made this $10.00 dsl deal with regulators to aqquire bell south. is the same AT@T thats ripped us off for years. i guess a $10.00 dsl customer is not a profitable customer?now that the bell system is almost compleat. God help us!

"The only parts of AT&T that aren't in AT&T right now are Verizon and Qwest... for now.." Wrong. They broke up into many companies, not all have joined back in. Examples include: Cincinnati Bell, Acatel-Lucent, Avaya, Systimax and Telcodia. They had more familiar names, but for some reason, keep changing them.

AT & T sucks anyway. You are better off with Verizon DSL/FIOS or Optimum Online Boost

But, to really understand the amazing complexity of the convergence and links between the different companies that now form AT&T, Colbert really has hit the nail on the head with his fantastic explanation: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4606495095994825594/sarcasm@nutmegan

i like how the lowercase letters of at&t make it all look so non-threatening.

Why does Uncle Sam think he's doing consumers a favor by requiring AT&T to provide DSL service to new customers at an artificially low rate?I live in an area where DSL is not yet available. It won't be available until AT&T thinks it can profitable make the service available. If they can only get $10 a month from potential new subscribers, that means I'll never get DSL.Thanks a lot Uncle Sam!

2004 - Cingular purchases AT&T Wireless2005 - SBC bought AT&T, then changed their name to AT&T. - The "new" AT&T announces that it will drop the Cingular brand name and see wireless under the AT&T brand. Bellsouth continues using the Cingular brand.2006 - AT&T purchases Bellsouth - Cingular as a brand dies. So, it can be said the Cingular purchased AT&T, and was then purchased by AT&T. It's just effing confusing to do so.
