the phone is available without contract, the price is without any subsidizing. Any cingular customer is encouraged to buy this phone right when it comes out without updating their contract or anything. So long as you are using cingular you can use this phone.
@turpenineAre you sure the price is without subsidization? Because if i recall correctly, Steve himself said multiple times is his Keynote announcing the iPhone that the prices were with a 2 year contract.
There are some good smart phones out there but they're all basically targeted towards the business market. I understand some people want Exchange/office support but personally I don't care. I'd rather have CoverFlow for my music and multi-touch for my photos. The reason I'm excited about the iPhone is Apple has taken the time to design a high quality smart phone for the non-business oriented user.
