hosted.ap.org — Gov. Sarah Palin was for the so-called infamous "Bridge to Nowhere" before she was against it, a change of position the GOP vice presidential running mate conveniently ignored Saturday when she bragged about telling Congress "thanks but no thanks" to the pork barrel project.

I have been a lifelong Republican, but can no longer stand what the party has done to our country on economic front. I have listened to all of the candidates and have been a supporter of Senator Obama’s for some time now. I’m a middle aged white woman, have family, career and am Catholic. I’ve lived in the South my entire life and have always been amazed how the right wing religious conservatives believe that they should force their views on the entire country! And I’m sick of it. Palin is a very scary gun toting, bible thumping, narrow minded Republican.I agree with you 100%. I’m very offended that McCain thinks women will vote for someone who is imply another woman! Sorry McCain, but Palin is NO Hillary Clinton. I used to hold a very hi regarding for McCain, but no longer. Palin might not realize it, but she is the “token” women in the big boys club.

Of course, Biden just loves earmarks and receiving gifts from his lobbyists, I mean, just looking at his 98th rank out of 100 wealthiest senators I realize he MUST be filthy rich! McCain? Use lobbyists to his advantage? Hah! He would never do such a thing. Support Charles Keaton and receive 250,000 in gifts from him to keep his mouth shut while Keaton squanders thousands of peoples life savings for his personal benefit? McCain was a good man! He spoke up and blew his whistle on the wrongdoers! Not to mention he was the most culpable of them all, and only did so to cover his own back. You rightards are laughable.

Thanks to all the folks who have proven they cannot read and understand what they have read. First, svendm and Gutterpunk, I am a Democrat, not a Republican, and I did not say I support the bridge, only that there are very good reasons want to improve means of crossing to the airport. Ever sailed? That "1000 foot" channel is a great deal longer than 1000 feet, and a wind down the length of it is not uncommon ... and would not necessarily close the airport, even as it would make the channel uncrossable for ferries and water-taxis. The problem for even large ferries is mooring in a crosswind. Improvements to the mooring facility would help, but not solve the problem. And, pdbailey, while there are only 50 or so people who live on the island, it is the airport for a rather busy town across the channel. So, though there are only about 7400 residents, thousands more a year visit it as tourists. Do you like salmon? Odds are you've eaten salmon shipped from there, so if you want to keep eating it, you might be a little more polite to those who make their living providing it.
