All that's missing is the explanation of spectroscopy (which is what the picture is of) and how that ties into the above.

Spectroscopy is a method of dispersing light and measuring the intensity at various wavelengths. Once you measure the redshift, you can estimate the distance to other galaxies, because the distance is proportional to the amount of redshift.
