Read my follow-up reply (not this one) for the "serious scientific problems).I read the links and I stand by my assertion that it's all speculation. What's happening is this: 1) astronomers ASSUME that the universe is billions of years old, 2) they ASSUME that stars take millions of years to form, 3) they create a theory of stellar evolution, complete with stages of star formation and what stars should look like at each stage, 4) they take pictures of stars and then "match" them to the corresponding stage in their theory that is based on multiple assumptions. I also found the Wiki article very misleading. The heading's lead the reader to believe that star formation has actually been observed, but when one actually reads through it one finds that this is not really the case. Bottom line: just because a bunch of astronomers casually claim that star formation has been observed doesn't necessarily make it so.
