msnbc.msn.com — In an effort to collect on a $12.8 million dollar judgement against email spammer Davis Wolfgang Hawke, AOL intends to dig up the yard of the spammer's parents where they believe they'll find buried bars of gold and platinum. While Hawke's mother says they won't find anything, she and her husband intend to challenge AOL's plans in court.

I'm torn here, I don't know who to hate more- AOL or some spammer. Props to the dude for actually burying treasure in the year 2006. I heard there's a map to the gold some guy in Nigeria has but he needs $2,000 first.

I'm quite surprised you can't do a much simpler site survey to see if the ground has been dug up in recent years.

fmimoso is right. This is part of the viral campaign for AOL's Gold Rush game coming soon. If you watch the intro on the gold rush site the guy says to look out for clues in pop culture - TV, magazines etc. The story is too rediculous for it to be anything else. The media has been suckered.

AOL should hire Goldmember to do the digging... "I love Goooooooooooooold!!!!!"
