Sweet... Now ATI will have the name to go along with the cheap, s**tty, hardware AMD will now being throwing into the new ATI er uh... AMD video cards. The idea of this makes me sick to my stomach...
If AMD fails at absorbing ATI and fails to gain a greater market share, cornering the market, everyone will mock them as incompetent. If AMD succeeds at absorbing ATI and gain a greater market share, cornering the market, everyone cry foul and they will end up getting sued for anti-trust. I don't see how they can win here.
I owned an Ati All in Wonder card from a few years ago. I left the Nvidia camp to have the fastest card of the moment and it was a good ride while it was on top. After that a year or so a couple of new games were unplayable with the card driver combo and I gave up and went back to the big green N. I do hope for the best for ATi with AMD as a partner. Let the frame rate wars begin!

This was already talked about. AMD has said this since they acquired ATi, not worth another story...

I don't understand why they would want to do that. ATi has a good name and they should keep it that way. Like HP did with Compaq.

I think AMD can make strategic alliance with ATI instead of buying. Because that saves money for AMD
