tgdaily.com — Yeah, we knew it was coming and AMD really had no choice. But wait: 47% sounds more dramatic than it is. Looks like that it actually is not enough to compete with Intel across the board. Especially the $860 for the FX-62 is ridiculous.

I want a laptop for school and I want AMD to come out with their answer to the core 2 before I get it, because I have a feeling it will be good. This is just sort of a stopgap.

Im waiting for AMD's next move. Intel is kickin some ass.

at these prices, only losers would buy AMD over Intel. The only reason my current comp is using an AMD chip is that AMD used to to be value for money. Now, Intel holds the crown. So AMD can go f off for the time being.

Perhaps you missed the point of how they aren't doing this to compete with Intel.

Maybe they're responding to Conroe by improving efficiency/streamlining production?

Newegg just dropped prices on most single-core AM2 chips, the X2 3800 is 169.00 and the X2 4200 is 199.00

Man, you really need to step back and look at the whole thing before you make such a claim. Yes Intel is kicking ass with the new Conroe chips. But you are comparing Intel's bleeding edge technology with AMD's 3 year old design. AMD does have some catching up to do but until Intel starts playing fair with the companies it makes deals with, I will continue buying AMD's chips over theirs.

O yea! I've been waiting for this. it's time to upgrade my 3800+ X2...not really necessary but I've got some money layin around that isn't going to be used for much else.

Well can I have your old one? :)

These price cuts aren't NEARLY enough. As some have mentioned the lowest end conroe destroys every chip AMD has on the market. Anyone who buys amd right now is an idiot. (I bought a opteron 165 3 months ago and I'm kicking myself).
