I've actually never used an Intel chip for my home desktop, so I can't really comment on their performance - but I've been -very- happy with my Athlon 3200+.
I noticed this the other day, but it might also have something to do with the fact that I hadn't looked at CPU prices in a while. When I checked the other day, Newegg had some major price cuts on the AMD FX chips.
the older AMD chips are going to be pretty cheap, seeing as AMD already cut prices when Core Duo chips came out over the summer, and those still pack a punch. it really depends on whether you want to be on the bleeding edge of tech, even though you might not need the speed, or get something a bit more reasonable and save a nice chunk of money.as a side note, i dont get why the 1st, 2nd and 4th comment got dugg down. there are some really obnoxious people on digg now.
Intel is only cutting the Celeron D chips, big deal! That's the grandma of CPUs. They need to cut their Pemtium D Extreme CPUs. Those power hungry chips are probably just sitting around now that Core Duo's are out.
