hardocp.com — These pictures were taken only a few minutes ago. AMD showed off their Barcelona quad-core processors in action today in Monterrey, California. What you see in the pictures below are single processor and dual processor configurations, so a true "4x4" is now realized by AMD that looks very comfortable on an enthusiast desktop.

@scabbersTrue - I was just passing along the meaning of the acronym since I hadn't heard it myself until I googled it...

It's looking like the 4-slot server processors are coming out next month, and the two-slot server/enthusiast (Quad FX) processors are coming out in July. For single-slot processors, we have to wait until August or September.

"AMD plans to start taking orders for its Phenom FX and Phenom X4 processors in Q3’2007"from <a class="user" href="http://www.dailytech.com/Final+AMD+Stars+Models+Unveiled+/article7157.htm">http://www.dailytech.com/Final+AMD+Stars+Models+Unveiled+/article7157.htm</a> dated May 4thThey will technically be 'out' in Q3 but probably won't reach mass availability till Q4 '07 though.

Competition FTW, yes. AMD FTW, no.I prefer AMD over Intel, but right here, right now, if I had to build a machine, I'd go Core Duo.(It would be my first Intel ever, too...)

Awesome, I'm dreaming of a gaming monster PC..

I don't know about that. Just like IMC > North Bridge. But Core 2 proves that wrong. Just because the tag line says something doesn't mean it's true.KG

I love it AMD, hurry it up and I will get a new PC with your new CPUs just from the allure of your new products.

@ hater2win:Wrong. The Mac Pros do not have any liquid cooling as of yet. The older Power Mac G5s (near identical case) did require liquid cooling though.

My question is is the 8 core part a derivative of Barcelona, or something entirely new?

@brainrecallProvided it's silent (which the Mac Pro is) then yeh. :oP@hater2winExcuse me *ASS* I think you'll find they use perfectly standard tall Intel Xeon Heatpiped heatsinks, same as Dell *ACTUALLY*. As the person above pointed out the G5s used liquid cooling, but that was because G5s almost go thermonuclear when you stress them, the Mac Pro DOES NOT, I mean the CPUs barely get above 40C - why would we need so much cooling?
