youtube.com— Because the hamster thing is kind of played out - SHRIMP on a TREADMILL. Pacific biology researchers have one fit shrimp thanks to their daily workouts!

The look on the shrimp's face is fantastic. At first he's all like, "yeah, this is OK, I'm just cooling out," then when it's starts up he's like "whoah! Get me offa this thing, dude!"Priceless
Training for the fish-bowlympics, perhaps?Look closely. The little bastard is grinning the whole time.He didn't even work up a sweat. I HATE it when my food is in better shape than I am.
The video was done by a Pacific University researcher David Scholnick when he was working on research for: http://www.hml.noaa.gov/stressors/disease/treadmill.html to investigate the effect of pathogens on shrimp that was published here:Scholnick, D. A., K. G. Burnett and L. E. Burnett. 2006. Impact of exposure to bacteria on metabolism in the Penaeid shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. Bio. Bull. (In Press). Why? Well from his page on Pacific's website: http://www.pacificu.edu/as/biology/faculty/DavidScholnick.cfm "Worldwide animals are at an increased risk of opportunistic pathogens. Elevations in temperature and increased areas of low oxygen, suggest that pathogen exposure of lower vertebrates and marine invertebrates are escalating. The central hypothesis underlying my research is that infectious disease can compromise the respiratory systems of lower vertebrates and invertebrates and thereby limit the ability of animals to sustain and recover from normal activities." OR Hot Oceans = Sick Shrimp ;-)I originally posted this to YouTube and then shamelessly dugg my own video but I didn't have AMAZING in the title so it bombed ;)
