bigsmoke.us — This text discusses how I handled validation messages and other flash notices caused by AJAX requests. It shows how to properly distinguish between and trigger failed or successful responses. Make sure your AJAX pages handle validation at least as well as your non-AJAX pages!

Much to my shame, this is, in fact, a duplicate of another story (<a class="user" href="http://digg.com/programming/AJAX_validation_in_Rails).">http://digg.com/programming/AJAX_validation_in_Rails).</a> I've resubmitted it (and reported the old story as 'inaccurate') because the old description was no longer correct and because the old URL now only forwards to the new canonical URL. The old description stated that it was viewable in IE. But, although the story is now available in XHTML 1.1 instead of in XHTML 2 with a transformation, it won't work with IE because access to my website is now blocked for all IE users. I refuse to serve XHTML 1.1 as text/html or to provide a transformation to some ancient HTML version because someone still insists on using IE.
