To play devil's advocate though: us bottom 95% can't appreciate the sort of thought-skewing that the top 5% has. The bottom rungs of the U.S. economy give the richest 5% $800 billion and the rich just wipe the flop-sweat from their brows and take a much needed vacation. They probably thought that they should be commended for beings so frugal by going to a five-star resort located within the United States. They could have easily done what they usually do to relax: buy some untouched tropical island, ship over all manner of off-road vehicle, and tear through the thick undergrowth firing explosive ammunition at fleeing tribes people that have never before seen our culture. You know, just to take the edge off. Half a million spent in California doesn't seem so bad in comparison. The way we see someone driving a nice, late-model car and simultaneously envy and condemn the owner for such and extravagant purchase is the way billionaires look at something like orbit. When you've only got the money for a fleet of private jets you tend to envy those that, on a whim, buy a seat on a rocket and take their R&R on the International Space Station; all the while deriding them for such a silly waste of money compared to those traveling the earth at sub 50,000mph speeds.
This quote of "apologize" is inaccurate. AIG does not feel their spending was wasteful, but does feel obligated to explain their logic to the public eye who will not spend time trying to understand the need to maintain professional relationships to maintain investments and keep their liquid money to a stable amount. It was not a dumb consideration
Dont be a tit it was and i QUOTE"White House spokeswoman Dana Perino today called ``despicable'' expenses from the first gathering, a weeklong conference last month at the St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach. Those costs included $23,000 for spa services, according to Representative Henry Waxman, chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. "You c**k.
