guardian.co.uk — This repetitious publicity glorifies terrorism as a weapon of war, scaring us far more than the original explosions did. Turn on the radio this week and a ghoulish voice from the bowels of the former World Trade Center seeks to curdle your blood and chill your bones. The best way to commemorate it is with silence. Instead, Bin Laden must be laugh-

I have to agree. Yesterday was awful, with people going on and on about 9/11. It's done. Time to get on with things and live our lives. Stop being afraid. The odds of you getting killed by terrorists is pretty close to zero. Worry about the real problems of the world.

Last time I checked, lightning strikes didn't hurt the economy, or make thousands of people go into mass hysteria. Terrorist attacks do more than just kill. So that argument is useless.

Have you *really* seen the footage of the jumpers, or do you just *think* you have.http://www.ogrish.com/archives/rarely_seen_footage_of_911_jumpers_used_in_moussaoui_trial_Aug_07_2006.html

Terrorism: the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.(thats from dictionary .com)Bringing democracy to the middle east ("for political purposes"), with war ("the use of violence"). Doesn't that fit into the definition of terrorism. I think the U.S. government might be a terrorist entity! The Bush administration (and the media, *cough* FOX *cough*) amplified the war on terror. What better way to scare the American people into a war in the middle east and a republican leadership! Wait, "and threats"! That makes 2 cases of terrorism!!!!!And taking that a step further, since the U.S. cant do business with terrorists, we are breaking are own laws, making the U.S. a state funded terrorist organization, AND a fugitive from itself!!! LOL ! ! ! ! ! ! !"This article shows that crises do not just happen they are part of a reaction manufactured by those that would seem to have something to gain by playing on peoples fears."completely true!!!I cannot wait until the news stops trying to scare me!!!!!!! Every single headline ends with "YOU COULD BE NEXT!!!!!!!"

I think everyone is missing the point, including the media and especially our government. We are not at war with terrorists. We are at war with states that sponsor terrorists, states that use terrorism as a means of gaining media coverage to spread their propaganda. They don't want us to be afraid, to get angry, or to fight back. They want us to ignore them while they prepare to fully annihilate us.So long as we don't fight the real war, a war against these states, then we should be very afraid for our future.

Aha!!! We are at war with ourselves!!!!! (see my above comment). Also, stripping up of our freedoms in a "crusade" (as Bush would say) against terror is only doing there job for them, their job being restricting our freedom. Ahhh, is that a 3rd way? (see above comment)!!!

@freddo411:And you piss your pants in hysterical fear about it.Congratulations on letting the terrorists win.

You're still making the assumption that we are at war with terrorism and terrorists. If we were really fighting terrorists such as Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Quaeda, etc. then there would be nothing at all to fear. These groups can't act without the support of governments, governments that use these groups for their own politcial purposes, their ultimate goal being to wipe out America. It is these governments that we are really at war with.Even if I grant that we are using terrorist methods (and I don't agree with this definition of terrorism), then so what. It's like the difference between murder and self-defense. Using a gun to kill someone is wrong, but using a gun to kill someone who is trying to kill you is right. If you understood that terrorism is not the enemy, that it is a method that the enemy uses because it can't fight us face-to-face, then you wouldn't say things like "We are at war with ourselves!!!!!" Instead, in the name of self-preservation you would say: "Whatever it takes to protect America is what has to be done."
