fastcompany.com — 2008 was the year that Web 2.0 became more mainstream. More ad agencies, businesses, and non-profits used Web 2.0 tools as a way to build community and relationships, cross promote products and issues, and integrate their online and offline marketing strategies.

I hope they will drop those huge font sizes that make all pages look like they're for the visually impaired.

Don't forget that, apparently, web 2.0 = social networking. 6/8 of them talked about social networking, 5/8 exclusively. "Social networking will become bigger" is about the lamest prediction you can make.

Perhaps locally, but there are many things that "the net" (in the larger sense) can do to still get information to people during times of crises. Don't discount different dissemination methodologies which are still powered by original information published on the web.

I hope that Chris Brogan is right. The theory has been proven time and time again - no marketing effort is more powerful than personal recommendation. Hopefully 2009 will be the year that mainstream corporations learn to tap into the outreach power of Web 2.0.

Experts didn't even manage to find a common definition of web 2.0. (For example, watch these five videos trying to explain web 2.0: http://inetzwerk.de/you/videos.html They didn't succeed (though the animations are really nice), and now experts even predict the future of web 2.0? Well, we all like to be entertained, do we?

Well said. To share my personal experience, online communities, web2.0 has greatly changed the way NGOs are raising fund. I donated to WWF canada and used their social fundraising platform to raised $75 for climbing CN tower. Canadian Olympic foundation has an online community for donors to social networking with each other. In today's business world, website is more than it used to be. It becomes social, grassroot. here is a very good resource about successfully deploy an online community http://bit.ly/c0pfzQ
