inhabitots.com — An EPA-certified lab in Berkeley has tested nearly 400 samples from 150 branded products marketed to children. The alarming results: 125 out of 146 products?or more than 85%?contained enough lead in a single serving to warrant a warning label under California?s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, better known as Prop. 65.

What are you talking about? I am not just talking about heavy metals. I am talking about the fact that most fast food, and even most food sold in supermarkets is generally unhealthy causing a multitude of health problems not to mention poor quality of life and poor self image due to the state of ones body. The statistics may not show it but poor nutrition (and lack of exercise, high stress, etc) IS the leading cause of death in this country. Any other condition you have is greatly compounded by all these factors. The body can handle most conditions on its own without medical intervention when it is healthy. Anyone is a fool to think that big corporations actually care about your well being. Their only concern is profit, and staying out of trouble which isn't hard because our government does the minimum to hold them accountable. Your comment is pure ignorance by the way...

This information is wrong. The 1 in 100,000 figure is for cancer causing chemicals. For lead, which is listed as causing birth defects or reproductive harm (next paragraph), products must contain less than 1/1000th (one THOUSANTH!) of the level that causes “no observable effect"!In other words, if you lived a thousand lifetimes with exposure to the level of lead that California allows, you'd STILL have no observable effect from exposure.I still claim that's an absurd requirement. It gets more interesting: the law exempts landfills, nuclear plants, military facilities... all kinds of things that can produce serious lead levels. It's ok to live on a waste disposal site without a warning, but god forbid you use Balsamic vinegar without a warning label. The typical American diet is said to contain 15 – 25 micrograms or more of lead daily, mainly originating in fruits and vegetables, but the limit for Prop 65 is .5 micrograms, or 1/30 what you get every day from your food.
