Tried doing that - installing Myth TV.Its such a bitch. The product is tough to install, need specific cards/HW etc. Its not ready for primetime unless it matures into a simple click and install process. Why can't it be like that. And I'm very experienced with technology and all but I hate to waste time on silly recompiles, updates etc. I've done enough of that in my life. Was fun when I was single. Now my family needs my attention. I need products that just work. ( love Apple hence )I would rather pay $10 for Comcast and get the job done properly. And spend that time wasted on Myth TV could've been spent playing with my kids. All in all, MythTV is nice now that its installed. But I wish it was an easier DVR solution
mythtv ftw. $60 for the hauppauge tuner and $60 for the vga converter. it autoskips commercials, handles other media formats (like a media center), and is rocking as i have it connected to my stereo.
I know I'll probably get burried by the Microsoft haters, but...I heard Windows Media Center Edition has built in TV schedules without subscription and can do the same thing as a TIVO. I heard you can also add as many as 4 tuners (maybe more) to record multiple shows at the same time.On top of that, I hear you can send those video files (of the shows you record) to a XBOX360 and play them over your TV. This would eliminate having to have a full size PC in the living room. The only downside I read about is the DRM sucks. Does anyone have experience using Windows Media Center Edition as a TIVO? Then sending the video files to an XBOX360? I'm just looking for an easy solution.
Or, according to the Target catalog that I got yesterday, you could go get one there for free. 80 hour, too. Free after mail-in rebate.I'll stick to my HD-DVR from Cox, though... only about 8 bucks a month and I don't have to buy the equipment when it gets upgraded.

Most people remember that since it was only about 7 years ago.

89 cent gas wasn't that long ago. It was 74 cents a gallon in the summer of 1998 where I live.

So after the 1 year, can you cancel? I've been scouring the agreement and I can't find anything.
