mobilepipeline.com— The industry is honing in on a compromise proposal for the contentious IEEE 802.11n next generation WLAN standard, and a deal could be struck next week at the task group?s meeting in Hawaii.

To IKbot - Most likely the "Pre-N" equipment that Belkin sells won't be compatible with the N standard once it's finalized. Belkin will probably make their true N routers reverse compatible, but don't count on that. And I hate Atheros' super G technology. It steals bandwidth from neighboring channels and creates interference. On my system it was really unstable as well and made the router reset.
I should stick to grade school because I don't take predictions and fanboy emotion as fact?I predict that 802.69u will be invented in Q3 2006 with speeds of 40 Tbps and a range of 2 million miles, at a cost of $2 per chip. That doesn't mean s**t about whether it will actually happen. Seems to me that the ones who belong in grade school are the ones who try to take hopes and dreams to the bank.
They meet in Hawaii on January 16. The PROPOSAL looks to be approved in which the FIRST draft (likely march timeframe) upon which final ratification of the STANDARD is based. If the proposal is approved then the EWC would now be finished and the IEEE .11n task group is now back on track for an officially approved 802.11n spec sometime in 2007. I suspect you'll see a blitz of WiFi products with "draft 11n" stickers sometime this year. It took around 10 Drafts before the 802.11e was finally approved.802.16 (WiMAX) is MLAN.16d = Fixed wireless broadband.16e = Mobile wireless broadband (laptop, cell phones, etc.)WiMAX has a number of challenges to overcome and the earliest you'll see true WiMAX deployed won't be till 2008; at the earliest. WiMAX is intended to be a last mile wireless alternative to cable and DSL. It's fiercest competitor is Qualcomm.

Maybe I will wait on buying a GOOD wifi card. This DWL-520 rev e is a POS, requires about 2 hours of hacking to work in linux...damn dlink
