Great article, this is exactly what is needed in this world today. Less is more. Go green by going back to the basics.

They were also racist, sexist, violent, poorly educated, etc., etc.. but man those older folk sure knew what was up!

And what's that have to do with their "greenness"? Oh right, some societal norms were wrong, so nothing they did could have been right...

My family is from the South and they are none of those things. If you visited the South you would find out what nice, decent people live there. Thank God most people aren't as judgmental and bigoted as you are.
BTW, you do know that slaves were owned and sold by Northerners too, right? And that most people, North and South, did not own slaves. As far as I know Northerners are just as violent as Southerners. Maybe you need to get out more and see the world.

Old people lived like that because they were poor and their lives sucked. They worked hard so you could feel like you're slummin' it when you use a clothesline. If they're still alive, thank them.

Then by all means we should do just as our grandparents, and do zero monitoring on pollution, our carbon footprint will appear to us just as uber-small as theirs.

My grandparents were children of the East European Theatre of WWII. I suppose they didn't have much choice.

My grandparents lived through the great depression and for some reason all they ever want to do is eat at Golden Corral.

s**t, my dad's been green before it was ever called green, ever since I can remember my first cognitive thoughts, and my siblings and I used couldn't stand it. Except back then it was called being CHEAP! ;-)

Buy less = less jobs. 300+ million Americans can't all be farmers.

That's true. China is the warehouse, the sales clerks are all in the U.S.

They're not green, they're cheap.

Ain't nothing we wouldn't learn with joblessness, homelessness, and starvation to motivate us. Better start networking with your local ecofreaks right away.
