ccnmatthews.com — US consumers are still downloading movies illegally despite the growing availability of subscription based movie download services according to a study conducted by Advanis Inc. "The industry can respond to this stubborn core of piracy in one of two ways: "It can spend its time and resources pursuing pirates, and..."

"HOWEVER, I see nothing wrong with file sharing, no one is profiting"Exactly, no one is profitting, especially the people who should be.

All the people who like to rant on about statistics and think they are smarter than other people apparently know nothing about shutting the f**k up because nobody cares.

Forgot to add: In some situations, you can't even burn the movie to a DVD that plays in a standard DVD player.

"The industry can respond to this stubborn core of piracy in one of two ways," said Phil Dwyer, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Advanis. "It can spend its time and resources pursuing the pirates, and attempting to get them to change their ways, or it can put those same resources into accelerating the adoption of these services by the early mainstream consumers, who are more inclined to behave legally."A third option is for the industry to offer up content at a decent resolution that is not crippled by DRM.

I think they miss the whole point. I'd rather BUY my movies as a PHYSICAL product, not a copy (legal or illegal). Even if I were to change my mind and decided to download or buy a download, it *MUST* be 100% cross platform - I don't want it tied to Windows, Linux or a Mac. I want it in a standard format which I can choose whatever machine I want to play it on now and in future.

The problem is that you get a better experience from a ripped movie than one you've paid for. Like other people have said, DRM, non-skippable messages, trailers, and other crap. Plus the fact that studios compress the video quality so that they can cram other crap onto the DVD. Even if you buy the DVD, you're better off ripping it before you watch it. Hell, I love putting a DVD in the player and just having it start playing the movie without having to sit through 5 minutes of bulls**t.

I remember 16 yrs ago when I was a kid and my grandparents would rent a vhs movie and record it while watching it on tv. Or record movies from the tv when watching them and every kids house that i went to their parents were doing that too. i mean all vcr's you can record from the tv and now dvd recorders whats the diffrence from that and downloading dvdrips online ? They are both a source of video content. I mean they are a group of kinda like friends that share movies online. its not like they are selling them online. No one made a big deal about recording off of cable or from a rental or from a friend's movie you borrowed. But if you do it online its more serious. Come on the movie was already paid for by the person they are just sharing it with friends online. I dont see second hand stores getting in trouble off of buying movies from people that owned them for a low price and then charging double and profiting from the copyrited material And after years make thousands and thousands in profit. Then the dowloaders are the ones who get the bad end and we are doing it for our own pleasure and not making any profit. I look at it like this if someone online has a dvd rip from a movie that they paid for its theirs. If they want to give it to someone else to have for free it its their choice. otherwise whats the point to buy it if you can never own it ? watch next people will get fined and jailed for breaking the dvds or if they through them away for destruction of copyrighted material. Even though they paid and owned it. MY SUBJECT IS ABOUT THE DVDRIPS, NOT THE CAM VIDEOS THAT PEOPLE SNEAK IN THE MOVIES TO RECORD.

totally agree with you - the choice is untouchable. so user can choose whether to rent a movie at http://itunes.com or to download it from e.g. http://coplace.com
