apnews.myway.com — "Shiva Rajaraman, product manager for YouTube, said internal tests show more than 70 percent of people give up when they see a pre-roll. By contrast, less than 10 percent decide to close an overlay, which they can exit by clicking on an "X" in a corner." Don't we use YouTube in part to AVOID the commercials? Overlay ... still sucks.

Youtube isn't putting ads on everything, only content partners they've already reached out to. Those content partners are getting a rev share.

I don't mind a skippable commercial --- if it's interesting I'll let it play, but why should I be forced to watch a commercial once I know I'm not interested in what it's selling?Maybe if they let you skip it after the first few seconds, that would be a decent compromise...

"Don't we use YouTube in part to AVOID the commercials?"No YouTube is designed to show amateur video as well as fair use sized clips from copyrighted works. You must be confusing YouTube with bittorrent.
