I've been to Northern Ireland a couple of times the Police riding round in armored cars still freaks me out even though it's deemed "safe".

Cambodia gets a lot of tourists now, and not just to Siem Reap (the town closest to Angkor) and Phnom Penh. If you go, one thing worth remembering is that it's definitely an SOTP (Stay On The Path) country. In rural areas that you haven't been explicitly told are safe, stick to well-worn paths or you risk getting an unpleasant reminder of just how much of the country was mined during the 1970s.One thing you will want is travel insurance that includes medevac. The Cambodian health infrastructure is extremely primitive, and your best chance if you have anything serious wrong with you is a fast flight to Bangkok. An American woman who I met there died of blood poisoning from a minor injury because she wasn't diagnosed and evac'd quickly enough.
