It gives people the ability to easily organize and manage information of different types from varied sources. If you can't grasp why that is useful then why are you using a computer?
Not really. You could argue that a comma is needed after the word "state," but that's a bit frivolous. Pipes is the name of the service -- it's not a plural noun.

Pipes is a data delivery and aggregation service, not an automated spam tool. You still have to do some work yourself.
